An Industry Leader: Brian Block Elected to the NVAR Board of Directors

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Allegiance, Managing Broker/Branch Vice President

I have some very exciting news to report.  I've been elected to a two-year term on the Board of Directors for the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS (NVAR)!  The results of the election were announced last Tuesday at the NVAR Convention.

Here's the official announcement: 2012 Board Election Results

Last Tuesday morning as I was about to head off to the NVAR Convention, I was surprised by a very touching gesture from my wife.  On the dashboard of my car, she'd secretly placed a chocolate truffle (YUM!) and a "Good Luck" card where she wrote "Good Luck in the NVAR Election.  You should feel honored just to be nominated for the Board and recognized as an industry leader.  I hope you win, but even if you don't, you're still a winner in my book!"  Thanks, Honey!  I couldn't have started the day off on a better note.

At the end of the day, in the big auditorium, the winners of the election were announced and brought on stage.  I was thrilled to hear my name called first and proudly came on stage.  Here's a photo of me on stage during the election results announcement:

Here's a photo of me with Vinh Nguyen, the Chairman of the NVAR Board for 2010 and recepient of the 2011 NVAR REALTOR of the Year award, and Beau Brincefield, an Old Town Alexandria real estate attorney (with whom I worked for several years while I practiced law and got started in real estate sales):

So, what does it mean to be on the Board of Directors for NVAR?:

  • I will be on the frontline of policy-making and decisions for the future of real estate practice in Northern Virginia.

  • Will be the first to know about changes in the way real estate transactions are conducted in the region (i.e. new provisions in the contract paperwork, new rules and regulations that affect buyers and sellers)

  • Will have an important say on legal and political issues that affect REALTORS and homebuyers and sellers.

  • Will have a hand in helping to design educational programs for REALTORS to increase professionalism within the industry.

  • Increased visibility among agents in Northern Virginia which can help lead to more exposure for the offices that I manage and the properties that I sell.

  • Giving back to an industry that has given me so much.

I'm excited to start my volunteer service on the Board of Directors of NVAR.  I know that my service will help me serve my clients with an even higher level of service than I already do.

If you have ideas or suggestions on issues that affect real estate in Northern Virginia, I'd be interested to hear them.
