The Mighty Macs opens tonight! And I'll be there - how about you?
I'm a "Title 9" baby - played basketball, soccer, softball and more in high school and college in the '70's - and we eventually had uniforms, trained coaches, (small) travel budgets, and more - thanks to Title 9 and the pioneering efforts of women like Cathy Rush - coach of the Immaculata College Might Macs - whose story is chronicled in this new release.
My small bit of women's sports trivia is that my University of Chicago basketball team's trip to Boston in 1975 was believed to be the first time a women's college varsity team ever flew to a competition. There were lots of firsts for women's sports in the '70's, and I'm happy to see this story told.
