What are your Bullet-Points?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

I had a call, yesterday, that was generated from my on-line presences.

Not solely from my Active Rain blog (although that was certainly part of it), but from looking through what they were able to find when searching for Realtors, and then clicking-through, from link, to link, to link to see what they could find out about me.

I had a lovely conversation with this young lady about the home search that they're beginning.  She and her husband are first-time-buyers and have been searching online for a while, but have finally made that scary, scary leap by actually contacting a Realtor.  (gasp!).

As we all know, many buyers are hesitant to contact us, until they're really ready to start looking, as they're concerned that we'll be high-pressure, and goodness-gracious, we might pressure them into buying a home NOW!

When I receive a call I always ask how they found me, and I learned that they'd found me online.  Yay! My online efforts are paying off.  And when I asked a few follow-up questions... like "What made you decide to call me, specifically?" It was a surprisingly simply response.

"We are first-time buyers and your website indicated that you work with first-time-buyers".  And indeed, "first-time-buyers" is the first bullet point on my Coldwell Banker website.

We Realtors consider these bullet points rather silly, 'cause... "of course" we work with first-time buyers... and second-time, and third time...  Do we work with buyers and sellers... unless you're an exclusive buyer's or seller's rep... well, d'uh!!  Will you sell me a condo??  of course!!

But clearly, in the eyes of the public... these bullet points are important.  They touch on exactly what the client is looking for, and it resonates with them.

Alan - Great story.  It's a good reminder to review our profiles and what kind of content we have on our websites and the messages we are trying to promote.  Congratulations on getting another lead off the Internet!

Home is where the hearth is.

Laura - and an even more interesting note that ... all of my blogging, all of my Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter... didn't mean a thing... it came down to a "bullet-point".  You never know what the public is looking for, so you have to do it all!

Alan- your post shows us how important giving some specifics can be in our marketing efforts.  Many people hear and read and in fact speak in bullet points, so if we're too general, just think how much our receivers aren't getting!

Alan, isn't that the truth? We can "specialize" in more than one niche. Even though we have a few listed, they'll see what they want to see and we'll help them in almost any need they have.

And bullet points are almost always read through as opposed to a paragraph indicating what we do for a living. Good for you for having your areas of expertise bullet pointed Alan. It looks like you picked up a new client!

On the subject but off the subject, when anyone asks, my favorite client is a First Time Home Buyer.  There is nothing like the joy of looking, finding, and making it happen for them.

Kathy - interesting, isn't it?

Eric - they want to see the specific need that they have.

Doug - LOL!

Craig - it would appear that way.

Kristin - lucky for me.

Meems - I happen to agree with that... there's no client happier with our services, than a first-time buyer.

Isn't it great to know where your business is coming from?  I love tracking it to something specific that I did that seemed silly to me at the time. Good for you!
