Seagulls on the Beach... Daytona Beach

Seagulls are as part of our gorgeous beach, as pelicans and crabs. They are always there, but I have rarely seen them fishing.

I have seen them fighting for fish, which ended up on the sand, sometimes I see them trying those crystal transparent jelly fish…

Sometimes, a beachgoer brings bread and start throwing breadcrumbs in to the air, and birds fly around, grabbing bread and fighting for the crumbs…

They live by their own rules. Sometimes they congregate on the beach and as long as you can see, there are seagulls standing on one leg in the company of others. Interestingly, different varieties of seagulls congregate together.

Beachgoers make them get into the air, but they will settle back when you pass them.

It looks like a meeting…

What are they thinking about?

Awesome photo.  It's so cold here, but I think that it's something that keeps a bit of warmth looking at pics like these!

Larry - feel sotty for you guys. Cold, winter, snow is not a problem and even fun, but it darn lasts too long

Melissa - the do not seem to be hungry. I sometimes see a fish thrown on the sand, and not that they rush to "dinner"

Bob - when we wal on the beach and see them there in huge numbers, the comparison that comes to us is that this is like a party meeting. It comes from our time in the Soviet Union, with all those party meetings there (LOL)

I would say from the long shadows, they are thinking about where their next congregation will be meeting and whether it's time to fly there. And when they get there, will they find bread crumbs?

Hi there Jon, ever since I was a kid, I have loved to feed the birds. My mum and I were recently at the beach and she was feeding the gulls potato chips from our balcony when one flew up and scared the bejeebers right out of her.

I could not help but laugh- I am not sure when I should I tell her that I was videoing it and caught the whole thing though...
