It’s that time of year again!  The 3rd Annual Dobson Place Winterfest block party will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 5 to 10 PM on Kimberlee Way.  Neighborhood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 2042 will open the evening with a salute to the flag and some holiday carols.  Then listen for Santa’s bells as he makes his appearance.  As a new attraction this year, from 5 to 7PM, we will have a wonderful backdrop for the little ones to pose for photos with Santa.  Another addition this year for the youngsters will be a train ride around the closed off section of the block.  Tricksee will be back to face paint and twist some balloons.

Bounce houses will be available to help the little ones burn off some energy!  To make sure that the bounce houses are safe and fun for everyone, we are labeling one house for 5 year olds and under and the other bouncer for 6 year olds and up.  Please make sure that your children follow these guidelines.  Parental supervision is advised.

We also want to make sure that everyone gets something to eat (in previous years, the food ran out fast) so we’re asking that you volunteer to bring a potluck dish. We will have one driveway designed as the “Food Driveway” and your appetizer/entrée/dessert can be dropped off on one of the tables set up there.  To help keep track of who is bringing what dish and for you to see what others are bringing, we encourage you to sign up your potluck dish at www.DobsonPlaceBlockParty.com .

Clean Cuts, the Dobson Place landscaping firm, has volunteered their professional size grill and some staff to help us grill away!  We will start with hot dogs and a super loaded condiment station and later in the evening we’ll be serving the gourmet cheeseburgers (while supplies last).

At 6PM, the night comes alive with Category 5.  Category 5, www.c5band.com, is a local rock cover band and will play a few holiday tunes along with music of the 70s through music of today.

This is NOT a Dobson Place HOA sponsored event, so to help defray the cost of all the rentals (tables, chairs, bouncy houses, etc.) there will be a contribution station for the first time. Your voluntary donations will be greatly appreciated.

Finally, there will be fire pits to help keep us warm unless, of course, it is a “no burn night”.   Also, the City of Chandler wishes for us to remind everyone that there are to be no alcoholic beverages consumed on the blacktop.

Did you know? According to Wikipedia, block parties are reported as a World War I innovation originating from the East Side of New York City, where an entire block was roped off and patriotic songs sung and a parade held to honor the members of that block who had gone off to war.
