Holiday Desert - Please Help Me Name It

I have a desert that I enjoy making for parties and for the holidays (Yes, guys can cook) and I thought it would be fun to share the photos and recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Wine  (your favorite kind)
  • Angel Food Cake (1/2 cake) (If you want to use the whole cake -  just make two)
  • Vanilla Instant Pudding - 1 package (3 oz.)
  • Milk - 1 3/4 cup - cold
  • Sour Cream - 1 pint
  • Fruit Pie Filling (your favorite flavor)
  • extras  -- something fun to add on top to decorate or anything else that you thing of (but not the kitchen sink)

directions:

  • assemble ingredients
  • pour wine & enjoy some
  • tear up cake and place pieces in cake pan
  • pour milk in a bowl (important -- make certain bowl is large enough) and add vanilla pudding mix - beat until blended with wire whisk, rotary mixer or electric mixer (use electric mixer at low speed or wear goggles)
  • just before pudding sets, mix in sour cream & stir
  • Pour mixture over cake
  • spread pie filling on top
  • If you feel creative, add anything fun on top of pie filling
  • refrigerate until ready to serve (at least an hour or two) (this is a good time to enjoy more wine)
  • enjoy

David, Thanks for bookmarking it -- I bet you enjoy it when you try it.  Merry Christmas.

Marcia,  Hmmmm - the amount of wine.  Well, enough to really be in the holiday SPIRIT. I bet you enjoy the recipe when you try it. Happy Holidays.

Patricia, It is delicious and what is fun is to change the type of fruit -- tonight I am making it with cherry filling but my favorite is a mixed berry. Have a Very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Carlotta, It is easy.  That is one of the reasons I like it.  Happy Holidays to you too.

Ava, It is fun for events -- every time that I have taken it to one, there is nothing left to take back home.  Have a Merry Christmas.

Sophia, I really like that name "Eat, Drink & be Merry"  and it is scrumdillyuptious

Jane,  I was hoping it was a little different from the normal recipes -- I don't know how it started out but it is a recipe that I have modified and modified over the years.  I hope your Christmas is Very Merry.

Cheryl, Don't worry about gaining weight -- if you look at the ingredients I didn't add any calories so it must not have any. LOL.

Peter & Linda,  I like that name too.  I guess that all my favorite recipes have lots of options. It makes them more interesting. Have a Pfanntastic Holiday Season.

It sounds very much like a classic English trifle. Not sure how it got that name though.

Anna, I hope you do enjoy the recipe. Yazmine and I would like to wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas..

Doug, I like your name. And with enough wine I sometimes "think" I can cook. LOL

Have a Merry Christmas.

Ellie, It does sound a lot like trifle but not quite as fancy.  Have a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Hey Gary - I used to make something similar using angel food cake - minus the wine and pudding.  Tear the angel food cake into bite-sized pieces and put it into a pretty glass bowl. (I used an oversized champagne glass.)  Pour cherry pie filling over the cake.  Soak sugar cubes in orange extract.  Put them on the top of the pie filling and set them a blaze.  You could also use brandy or some other liquor.  It's fun, festive and really yummy.  Happy New Year to you!  And, I will be trying your Napa Version.
