Love Working with A Local Senator

I call 4 State Senators about a stupid law that won't allow for fixed rate reverse mortgages in Illinois.  I won't belabor the horrible aspects of the law, but seniors cannot have a fixed rate reverse mortgage in Illinois as it stands right now...but the other 49 states they can.  The Residents of Kane County Can Save Some Money

I call 4 state senators, including the author of the bill and they all point to Mike Madigan (the speaker of the house) who has killed the bill each year (evidently he doesn't like the elderly) for some odd reason or another.  I guess he wants the elderly to have variable rate mortgages, not fixed rate mortgages.  My .02 cents is that it's not a good idea for the elderly.

Every senator calls me back to talk to me about the bill.  The lady in Speaker Madigan's office says he will NOT call me back.   I thank her for being honest.

I finally get to my local senator and we discuss the bill.  One thing leads to another and we digress to HARP, which is Home Affordable Refinance Program.  Suffice it to say, the senator asks how come more people don't know about it or how come they aren't taking advantage of the program.

At the end of the day, we agree.....That......

That we need to create a site together to inform all 320,000 residents of Kane County about what's out there for them!

It's not good for our county to have our citizens default on their home mortgages.  It leads to vacancies, loss of property values and ultimately depresses an economy.  No Senator or Rep in their right mind would want this.  At least this senator is doing something about it to bring value to their constituents.

So...in short order the good senator and I have created a portal that will allow all of the residents of Kane County to see if they're property is insured by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.  If they are, then Cherry Creek Mortgage and two otehr companies have a feature opportunity in order to serve these clients.

You never know until you try!!!!!

Way to get involved.  Your clients and community are lucky to have someone such as yourself getting in there and making things happen.

It's so important for people who are in difficult financial circumstances to understand all their options.  I was actually planning to write a post on reverse mortgages myself.  I can't imagine why they won't give the option of a fixed rate reverse mortgage.  I give you credit for getting out there and making a difference.

Larry -- sorry that the lead Senator doesn't seem to want to help elderly on Reverse Mortgages.  Maybe you should let a few seniors in his district know about his attitude.  They may want to look at getting a replacement in the next elections.
