Carolyn Smith, Realtor - Things to do in Brevard County, FL: Launch Alert… Don’t miss this! Cape Canaveral’s second rocket launch of 2012 is set for Thursday, February 16th.
An Atlas V rocket is set to launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station during the 44-minute launch window of 5:46 pm – 6:30 pm on Thursday evening. The Atlas V is a 206-foot rocket that is supported by five strap-on solid rocket boosters. Thursday’s Atlas V rocket will be carrying a new communication satellite called the Mobile User Objective System into space for the Navy. The new satellite will help improve ground communications for U.S. Forces.
As of noon on Tuesday, February 14th, tickets to view the launch from Kennedy Space Center were still available. Tickets will allow you admission to Kennedy Space Center and rocket launch transportation tickets, which will provide transportation to a prime rocket launch viewing location within Kennedy Space Center. Also as of today, the weather is looking great for a “go” on Thursday.
For those of us who live on the Space Coast, we are some of the lucky few who are able to witness a rocket launch right from our backyards. For visitors, there are many great spots from which to view the rocket launch. For the best seat in the house, take a day trip to Kennedy Space Center and view the rocket launch from the Visitor Complex or Rocket Garden, or splurge for an exclusive “launch ticket” for an even better view of the launch. If you would rather watch from a little bit further away, any spot along the Indian River or on the beach will be great, as well as Playalinda Beach, the Cocoa Beach Pier, or anyplace along the NASA Causeway.
Let’s hope the weather forecast stays favorable for Thursday’s launch! Although we miss watching the manned space shuttles launch from KSC, the rocket launches are still absolutely spectacular, magnificent, and breathtaking. Don’t miss Thursday’s rocket launch!
