The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council and the Environmental Affairs Committee invite you to participate in the Environmental Awards Program. Through the awards, the City looks to recognize and show appreciation for those who give back to the environment, and encourage others to get involved!

ELIGIBILITY:
Open to any citizen, business, or organization based within the Gaithersburg City limits, or schools with at least 10 percent of their students being City residents, that have demonstrated outstanding efforts to improve Gaithersburg's environment - either for a single project or over a period of time (not only 2011-2012).
SCOPE OF THE AWARDS:
Examples of environmentally-friendly programs and projects include, but are not limited to:
- Pollution prevention/recycling/green purchasing
- Greenhouse gas emissions reductions
- Generation or purchase of alternative energy (wind, solar, etc.)
- Energy and water conservation measures
- Environmental Management Systems
- Tree planting and management
- Invasive species and integrated pest management (IPM)
- Stream monitoring and restoration programs
- Environmental education
- Other innovative environmental enhancement ideas or projects

DEADLINE:
Early submission is encouraged! The deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012.
JUDGING:
The Environmental Affairs Committee will evaluate the applications based upon program effectiveness, innovation, and endurance.
AWARD PRESENTATION:
Awards will be presented by the Mayor and City Council at a special awards ceremony on Monday, April 16, 2012 during Gaithersburg Green Week.
