Hand Stitching Connects More Than Threads And Fabric in Havertown, Delaware County, PA

real estate delaware county paHand stitching can be a very relaxing thing, often it is done to create a finished product for a friend or family member or a way to make something to embellious one's home.  Well hand stitching can also help bring people together.

Every Friday there is a group that gathers at the Haverford Township Free Library on Darby Road starting at 10AM where hand stitchers of all levels meet to form a "community" of hand stitchers.  Knitting, crocheting, embroidery, counted cross-stitch...whatever the medium involving threads or yarn is welcome.

real estate delaware county paFor roughly two hours projects done by hand are worked on while the participants drink tea and talk with each other.  Such regular meetings are a great way to help motivate you if you have a project that has been sitting in a bag in the closet gathering dust or you are stuck with a detail on a new project.

It sounds like this group has been gathering for a few years now and that there are many experienced attendees who could offer guidance on a knitting, crocheting or other fiber craft project.  Whatever your level of craft, this sounds like a great place to gather and connect with women who enjoy creating things for others or themselves.  And men, if you have the desire to learn how to knit or crochet or are an experienced hand stitcher also, I bet you would be welcomed too!

For more details, open this link Haverford Township Free Library or call 610-446-3082.

Happy Stitching!

Doug and Gloria:  This sounds much like the Quilting Bees that my mother attended back in the 50's.  Community can be built by doing such simple things as hand Stitching.....hope these folks remember to count their stitches as they visit!  Love your hand print mosaic on your website.

Doug & Durren, Sounds like a great program. As a avid quilter I love getting together with other quilters, it's fun, you meet new people and you get your project moving forward.

Sounds lovely! I had a knitting group meeting at a Panera Bakery for a while, and whenever we closed the place down we got to take home their leftover baked goods.

Gloria, those hand hobbies may be an excellent way to spend time and enjoy some socializing, unless you're healty enough to do some requiring a bit more exertion.

Hi Nancy, I enjoy being around quilters, there is always such wonderful fabrics to see!  Being in a group is motivating.

Hi Joetta, What fun!  Rewards for your efforts!  Good for Panera to do that for all of you!

Hi Ed, I was part of a Sierra Club group that hiked together years ago, that was a fun way to socialize while moving about and climbing a hill or mountain. I know you are busy in many groups.

Hi Joan, I enjoy seeing the color combination of things in groups like these.  There is always such variety.

Gloria, glad to hear about this. Very neat. My mother still attends the quilting circle in the church I grew up in. The quilt auctions for the MCC relief sales are also quite popular. Thanks for sharing about this group.

Gloria - this sounds like just my cup of tea.  I recently crocheted a baby afghan for a friend of mine.  EVERYONE at the baby shower ooohed and aaahed over my gift the most - because it was handmade and heartfelt.  Maybe we all need to take a step back?

Hi Cal, That is wonderful that your mother still attends such a group.  They are so important in so many ways as you pointed out.

Hi Juli, Hand made items are special to those who receive them as gifts.  That's great that you were able to find the time to make that blanket!  They will cherish it for years to come!

Hi Joni, Thank you!  I just love those hands!  They are on a wall in Media.  A mosaic created by local young people.

Thanks everyone for stopping by!
