When Tax Break Turns Into A Tax Increase

For those of you who don't know, the Guarantee Fee will be going up by 10 basis points soon.  How you ask?  Here's a clip from the story posted by California Association Of Realtors...

  • The guarantee fee will rise 10 basis points on April 1; the increase was included in the two-month extension of the payroll tax reduction last December.  A basis point is equal to one one-hundredth of 1 percent, or 0.01 percent.

So to simplify....  The increase was tied to the payroll tax deduction extension.

Which means.... When the payroll tax deduction goes away... we'll have the higher payroll tax AND RETAIN THE BASIS INCREASE IN THE GUARANTEE FEE.

Don't you love how the govt administration can raise your taxes even while they're telling you they're lowering them?

Cameron - can't really say that I enjoy their ability to squeeze more without increasing any tax.

Tea Party time?  I have calculated that my total tax burden is 52%!  (federal, State, county) How much more can they take from us?

Bruce - You forgot to add sales tax, gas tax, utility taxes, auto taxes, liquor tax, property tax, toll road tax, etc.  Now what is your total tax burden.   ;-)

I'm really getting tired of other people not only spending my money, but getting to decide what they're going to spend my money on.

Cameron, that's why it will be important to vote. If the current admin goes another four we'll be like Sweden, except without the three months vacations.

Hi Inna - very cute picture!  Thanks for stopping by.

Pamela - Boy a 3 month vacation would be nice.  I'll definitely be voting this Nov.  Unfortunately, it won't matter much here on the left coast.
