I don’t care what you had for lunch, or do I?
We’ve heard it before, especially when it comes to Twitter. It still comes up in my social media classes, in fact I no longer wait for it, I bring it up myself. Let's get it on the table and talk about it. I’m curious about technologies and how they change us when we adopt them.
Twitter is still a little bit of an enigma among the social media platforms. Yet it serves some very practical purposes. It’s short, sweet and direct. Twitter does a few things very well like...
1. Simply touching people and sharing what's up and linking to other locations where you're involved in other conversations.
2. An awesome source of assistance and information if you simply ask the question.
3. Getting the latest breaking news, often in real time.
4. Growing community. There's a generous populous here and if they find your content at all interesting they share it with their followers.
And, like any community you hangout in for awhile, you will make friends. Sometimes it's just plain simple fun to share something you did no matter how silly. Remember being a kid and you couldn't wait for recess at school so you could tell your story about a cool thing that happened? You weren't speaking to the whole world. You were talking to each other and the world was included.
I was at Mizu Japanese Steakhouse last week for a working lunch with Jill Bell, one of my sales reps. She needed to be in Covington, WA and asked me if I’d ever been there. Well, no I hadn’t. I took her suggestion and we met there. What a delight! It has a roomy modern touch, yet warm.. I loved the colors and lighting. We decided on the hibachi new york steak with vegetables and fried rice. Chef Roy took great care of us. He has an inviting warm and sincere smile with an engaging soft spoken charm. It was fun to banter small talk with him while he artfully created our meal before us. Hands down, the best steak I've had in a long time. Everything was done just right including the vegetables and I loved the inclusion of fresh squash. Us Northwesterners love our squash! Great suggestion Jill and thanks for a fabulous lunch. I'll be back again and next time I'll try the seafood! |
If you're using social media as a marketing strategy, lighten up, have some fun. Share a meal!
A few Twitter Facts: There are about 465 million Twitter accounts with @ 175 million tweets per day. There’s about a million accounts added everyday and the top 3 twitter users are the USA at about 107 million users, Brazil with about 33 million users, and Japan with 30+ million users. May be a fad, but I doubt it passes away soon.
