Once huge trees stood tall and proud,  forming a bunker between us and the crowd.

They sheltered us from noise and smelly air.

For years they were there for all to share.

In the mornings the sweet sounds of birds, happy frogs and bugs were what we heard.

When life's pressures grew hard to bear, we could put things into perspective just looking over there!

A bit of natural beauty had been preserved, but then due to a developers nerve,  the trees became a memory, something from our past.  Like a dream, they vanished so fast.

There is no longer space for things of beauty.  The builders seemed to feel their duty , to remove serenity and nature from that place, adding more man made crowded space.

We must now listen to traffic roar. Mornings have become a bore .

Birds and animals have all fled, except for those whose blood was shed.

All done for progress in our city.

Ruination... Such a pity.

Is it progress when we crowd people in, or will they long for open spaces again?

What egotists must these men be, to think they can build anything better than a tree?

The money they make can never make up the cost

Of the beauty they have taken... Of what all if us lost.

( the land was used to build 350 townhouses and condos, which are still there.)  The trees eventually grew back and basically curtain the development from sight.  We strangely enough have sold many of those units over the past 35 years and managed 18 of them for an investor...  Perspective changes!
