As I venture forth in Activerain bootcamp I was asked to identify why I got into real estate. As I pondered the question, the more interesting it became. The real answer is, "I don't know!". It wasn't as if I have some long family history, or that I even admired someone like Donald Trump.
I suppose you could say that my timing with real estate was perfect or terrible depending how you look at it. In 2003 I was looking to fill out my course load at Ohio University and ended up tagging along with a buddy to Real Estate 101 (aka Pricinples and Practices to you veterans out there). The professor was so adamant that there was no "real estate bubble" and harped about the long term value of real estate so much, that I bought in! Literally...
I went to Chase Bank on Court St and received a no credit-no asset loan to purchase my first property as a college student. Imagine doing that these days, right? Fortunately, it went pretty well and a year later I had multiple properties and a real estate license. I was all in, and ready for a rewarding career.......well, sort of.
Then, as we all know, the bubble DID burst. My rental property was fine, college campus's are somewhat bubble proof. However, my career in real estate definitely got off to a rocky start. So much so that I switched from residential to commercial in 2007, It ended up being a career saving move, and in my second year I was in the top ten in leasing for the Columbus market. More importantly, I had a new found confidence in my ability to be a succesful Realtor.
It has since snowballed into the creation of my company, "Core Ohio Realty Advisors", a true full service real estate company. With an improving market, and the company growing solidly in its second year, its hard to even imagine doing anything but real estate. I guess you could say, that I'm still all the way bought in!
