Feel the fear but do it anyway!!

Education & Training with Bill Fields Learning Systems

One thing I see almost daily in my real estate training are people that are not doing what they have the real estate trainingpotential to do because they are allowing fear of rejection to stand in their way.

What is the fear of rejection and do you suffer from it?

Fear of rejection is the irrational fear that others will not accept us for who we are, what we believe, and how we act. It's a state of mind that makes some people incapable of doing or saying things for fear of others' rejection, lack of acceptance, or disapproval.

This fear leads to self-immobilization, self-defeating, and self-destructive behavior. This attitude encourages ongoing irrational thinking and behavior, resulting in personal stagnation, regression, and depression. Fear of rejection is the abdication of power and control over my own life.

People who operate out of a fear of rejection display little assertiveness. Privately people who operate from a fear of rejection express a great deal of anger or depression over how unfortunate and unhappy their current life is.

People who act out of a fear of rejection may lack healthy self-worth or self-esteem because they had a traumatic experience of rejection, for example, in a divorce or separation that deeply scarred them. They may be insecure in their personal identity, and suffer from a debilitating lack of self-confidence.

Do you operate out of a fear of rejection?

In our real estate training we work with people to help them overcome this fear of rejection. If you want to overcome the fear of rejection start by identifying the clients or person(s) from whom you fear rejection (Do you worry about asking buyers and sellers for a decision?) and identify how your fear of rejection is displayed in your behavior toward those people you identified.

Identify healthy, productive, and rational alternative behavior patterns to those you now demonstrate when facing rejection. What obstacles, other than your fear of rejection, could keep you from adopting these alternative behaviors?

Analyze the obstacles you listed and determine whether they are irrational beliefs or actual obstacles to change. If the obstacles are not irrational beliefs find alternatives to rid yourself of these obstacles.

Start TODAY to implement alternate behavior patterns not based on a fear of rejection.

Real estate training thought for today: Feel the fear...But do it anyway!

Have a day full of conquered fears.

As a high school nerd I received Top Gun training in the rejection department. Who knew that training would pay off later in life?
