It should be manadory that any agent that intends to baby sit an Open House should be prepared for the unexpected. There has been a rash of robbery's and attacks on agents in our area that have held Open House solo. When holding an Open House following the suggestions below will be helpful. 1. Let your family, co-workers, and the neighbors that are around the Open House know that you are holding it open. 2. Try to hold Open House with a fellow agent. 3. Pay attention to your surrounding. When a prospect comes a calling, do not let your guard down, observe what kind of car they are driving, try to get a name and have them register, if they hesitate, or refuse, be extra careful. She/he could be working as a team. It is in your best interst to inform the visitor that it is your personal policy, in providing the best service to your seller that they provide you with this information before they proceed thru the home. It can be challenging to get this info, it will help if you need to deal with the police. 4. Snap a photo. It will help also with the seller. 5. Common sense is your best defense. If your intution is sending you signal pay attention. 6. Have a exist route planned out in case the unthinkable should happen. 7. Some very good suggestions.  Under no other circumstances would people just open the front door to their home and invite total strangers in, yet we do it all the time in the "interests" of selling a home.

Those are great suggestions. We try to follow those at our office. Our local association also has a safety class every other month.
