If you have been wondering if your elgible for a HAFA short sale one big factor is your lender.
Below is a paragraph from the legal section of the participating lenders HAFA Fact Sheet put out
by the California Assocation of Realtors.HAFA (Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives ) is now also available for mortgages that are owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac or serviced by over 100 HAMP (Home Affordable Modification Program ) participating servicers/lenders. However different rules apply to loans owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or insured by FHA, VA, or the Dept. of Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service. A list of HAMP participating servicers can be found here.
All is not lost if you do not find your lender on the above link, as many other lenders have their own programs that are very HAFA like programs.Most ALL the large banks that took TARP money (BOA,CHASE,WELLS FARGO......)will offer the HAFA program or a like program to you.
