There has been a lot of talk on AR about newbies and blogging. Marc Blasi wrote on the number of new members to the Active Rain Community OK Newbies, Time to Get Active....... and something occured to us...the content of comments and the recent LACK of comments. I will be the first to admit "Good post" does not deserve 25 points. As a matter of fact, I think they should deduct 50 points every time the ONLY comment is "Good post."
Why is commenting so important? First of all as you begin the process of blogging and are sharing content, humour, experiences, advise with our community YOU have made an effort.
Secondly, commenting on a blog you have read provides the writer with a measurable method of determining if the post was read. If you didn't like...say so. If you did like it...say so and WHY. This will give the writer room to expand on a topic of interest.
Thirdly, if you are new, commenting on a post you have read is a great starting point. If you learned something you did not know before-SAY SO! Many of the amazing writers we have are sharing their knowledge for free. BRAVO. We all try and pass along helpful hints. Some small contribution to the community whether it be humourous, anecdotal, statiscal, or opinion is expression. Since the system was revamped, one of the first things I saw drop off the charts was the comment streams seemed to trickle. One of the things I enjoyed most about Active Rain was the banter. A clever observation, pun, wit, humourous quip and even the off topic remarks all were amusing. GIVE ME SOMETHING I CAN SINK MY TEETH INTO! Feedback.
