Just North of Big Rapids lies a hidden treasure called Paris, MI. Known for it's Fish Hatchery it has been a visitors destination for 100 years. Back in the day it was a huge operation employing several hundred workers. Today it is a quiet place sitting along the Muskegon River offering several deals in the real estate market. Being only minutes from Big Rapids most of it's residents have no trouble making the 5 minute commute either direction to Big Rapids or Reed City. Anyone who has ventured back into the park area has seen their scaled down version of the Eiffel tower. There is a really nice campground there at the site of the old hatchery that hold 68 campers.

Most of the area surrounding Paris is either wooded or farmland. There are several riverfront lots and homes available and can be found on www.bigrapidshomes.com . I love the relaxed feel Pari, MI has to it. They have a general store where most likely Charlie will know you by name if you have been there before. One of the real estate draws to this area is while it is close in proximity to Big Rapids, the housing prices are less expensive making this a great place to live. Only minutes from US131 make it attractive to commuters. Currently there are just under 30 homes for sale in the Paris, MI market and several vacant lots and acreage parcels for sale.

Paris, MI ChiefBe on the look out for ten foot tall indian chiefs if you decide to wander back through the park. I have taken my children and grand children there many times to enjoy watching the large trout still living in the waterways. The "Rails to Trails" runs right through Paris, MI for those wanting to walk or bicycle ride there or grab a bite to eat at Pizza in Paris. If you need a place to stay over the Paris Motel is open and ready to help. Paris, MI lies in Green Charter Township and their offices are right in town along with the Post Office and the Paris Cafe.

Most kids in Paris either go to Big Rapids Schools or Reed City Schools and of course Ferris State University is only 10 minutes up the road for higher education. While having a country feel the big box stores like Walmart, Meijer and Menards are only 10 minutes along with the Mecosta County Medical Center which is an award winning hospital. Police and Fire Departments are nearby also should you find yourself needing help. If Paris, MI sounds like a place you would like to live give me a call and I am sure we can help.

Randy: Great post- Most people outside of Michigan don't realize what wonderful natural resources we have.  I live in Southeast Michigan but I love going to the west side of the state for camping and river-kayaking (My favorites are the Pine and Manistee).  Thanks for sharing!  :)
