Tonight, there will be the giant Fourth of July fireworks display on the National Mall - unless, of course, the predicted rain shows up at sundown.

We're going to be able to watch them from the roof of the Department of Labor with some great clients who are becoming great friends. And I'll be there with my camera and tripod, and of course, a picnic of roasted chicken and lots of great stuff to go with it.

Wherever you may be watching fireworks, have a wonderful 4th of July.

I don't think I would like living downtown during the Fourth of July. I've never been there on the holiday, but understand it's a madhouse. I HATE large crowds, especially in hot sticky weather.

Hi Pat, Boy am I envious. Imagine having a clear view out over the Washington Monument. I hope your collection of photos will be amazing. If you are using a DSLR camera, here are a couple tips that might be helpful.

Set ISO to 100 or 200 if that is the lowest on camera

Set the f-stop to 11

Use your telephoto lens

Set to manual focus ( use the first few expoding shells to get the range and leave it )

Set Shutter speed to 2 or 3 secs

Use remote

This should give you some excellent shots. Enjoy a fabulous show! Happy 4th of July Pat

Patricia~ I must say I'm jealous. I'm sure you will have a great view. I've never attempted to take phots of fireworks. We won't have any this year due to all the wildfires in the state. It'll be a quite night for us.

OH, dear! Just got home. I can't believe that I forgot both my camera and my I-Phone (with the emergency camera). I'm pretty annoyed with myself, but i did get to really, really watch the fireworks, and they were amazing.

Sounds like a great location to watch the fireworks.. Hopefully NO rain for you! we just had a crazy thunderstorm about 30 minutes before the fireworks.. then it stopped and fireworks were good to go...

One of my favorite holidays....love the Portsmouth fireworks, but didn't get there this year due to birth of our granddaughter. If I'm going to miss the fireworks, I guess that's a pretty good reason, LOL!
