What Exactly is the 80/20 Rule?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

"By the numbers it means that 80 percent of your outcomes come from 20 percent of your inputs. As Pareto demonstrated with his research, this "rule" holds true, in a very rough sense, to an 80/20 ratio, however, in many cases, the ratio can be a lot higher - 99/1 may be closer to reality. It really doesn't matter what numbers you apply, the important thing to understand is that in your life there are certain activities you do (your 20 percent) that account for the majority (your 80 percent) of your happiness and outputs". From Yaro Starak's blog, the founder of Entrepreneurs-Journey "the key to being most effective is to identify your 20% and spend more focused time doing those activities".

In property management * it's 80% of your problems come from 20% of your properties/owners....so the task is to ELIMINATE dealing with the 20% and getting better owners/properties...

Chloe,

This rule has been hammered into me since I can remember.....I was taught 20% of what I do will bring the best for me, meaning I spent 80% of my time doing things would only bring 20% of my success.....

The one situation that comes to mind......spending time w/good friends w/whom we have shared many good times and watched our children grow and have never-ever referred me any business......yet I have many casual friends who we send very little time that have sent me many referrals......and we have very little in common other and a faint association that comes by a couple times a year.
