Want to be TREATED like an ADULT? Give up your .EDU E-Mail Address.....

It was the MOST FAMOUS line in the movie, The Social Network, when one of the Winklevoss twins mentioned that HARVARD had the MOST prestigious EDU e-mail address.

That may be; however, the sooner a graduate PROGRESSES to an "adult" e-mail address like GMAIL or an e-mail address that will address SPAM and ATTACHMENT and storage issues, the sooner they may be seen as an adult.

I am surprised to see how many recent graduates and college/university personnel continue to CLING to their EDU addresses for their BUSINESS e-mails.....and HOW MANY TIMES they do not get e-mails with attachments, graphics or even a 2-page pdf application form.

So....make it easier on yourself - show a BIG BOY or BIG GIRL e-mail address.

Kudos Anthony - friend in property management business has his son working for him this summer - I strongly suggested he get a g-mail address and stop using his VaTech email....he's in WAHOO country! HeHeHe

My husband is a professor of mathematics and does have an edu email...... I also don't really have a problem with graduate students with assistantships (who also have an edu email). I find work emails at hospitals are harder to deal with....

I hadn't really noticed this before but now that I think about it, you're right. I'd think anyone would want to use their OWN email address to correspond about their property management details.

Mark * many limitations on educational e-mail systems - my biggest issue is delivery timliness AND non-delivery of attachments.

Debbie * I don't have a problem with someone still in acedemia having an edu address - most have an alternative or I just send to their wife's e-mail so so that I know my communication is being read.

It is true that my acedemic husband does have an alternate email..... I had one customer that couldn't be reached at all through mls. It was blocked by the work email and she had no internet in her home. I ended up taking everything to her. An enormous pain. I find it difficult but not impossible to work with people without email.

They can't get attachments, mail is DELAYED or can't be viewed on smartyphone and system goes down * A LOT!
