New Construction Terms Part 2: Types of Ceilings in a Home
In New Construction Terms Part 1, we learned about the terms for types of windows in new homes. Today we will learn about the types of ceilings in a home. With information such as this, you will be better equipped with the knowledge to compare new home builders or look at recently built homes for sale.
A vaulted ceiling is simply a ceiling that forms an upside down V shape. (That should be easy to remember, right?) These vaulted ceilings have been popular with clients searching for homes in Louisville. I have also heard them called cathedral ceilings.
This tray ceiling was built by Louisville's award-winning Paragon Homes. It is actually a double tray ceiling and these are popular as well. Some people spell it "trey," but it is named this because it looks like an upside down tray. (I made this same mistake for a long time.) Again, it should be easy to remember.
A beam ceiling leaves the beams exposed for a rustic yet modern look. Another Paragon-built home has this look that makes you feel right at home in the kitchen.
A coffered ceiling can make a room seem taller. These are gaining in popularity in newer homes in the Louisville area. Patterns of squares are shown here but you can put any kind of shape in a grid pattern and call it coffered.
These are the types of ceilings you'd find in most new homes in Louisville.
