So, hitting the send button...

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

was a good idea. Really?

I must admit that I can struggle with the tried and true concept of "restraint of pen and tongue". So, it could be argued, that when I think someone or something might have gone over-the-top, it should probably set off tornado sirens, or a least a "Danger, Will Robinson".

Such was the case this past weekend. I received an email from an agent that was sent out to virtually all of Coldwell Banker Atlanta REALTORS and/or brokers. Without boring you with the details, the agent went above and beyond to disparage not only the person he felt had performed poorly, but went on to go after his boss, and that person's boss as well.

The general consensus around the office this morning really did not focus on the claims, which in fairness, could be true or false. At this point, only one side of the story has been provided. The focus really centered on just how un-professional one can be if one really tries. Seriously, airing any part of this issue to all agents or employees in a company is NEVER a prudent course of action, let alone airing it out to a company that you do NOT work for.

Based solely on how this situation has been handled, I would be highly reluctant to conduct any business with the individual in the future. Think about it? Why would I risk my clients having to deal with such behavior, let alone me having to deal with any potential fallout.

It really does not matter if his stance is 100% correct, proven to be 100% false, or somewhere in between. What does matter is that is wholly inappropriate to handle a situation this way. If he is right, he still looks like an idiot for handling it this way. If he is wrong, the lawyers for Coldwell Banker Atlanta could have a field day. Seriously, no good comes from this in either scenario. There is only bad, and much, much worse.

Lesson learned here is not hard to see. Never, and I mean never, hit the send or submit button if you are mad. Good things seldom come from an angry position. You almost always end up looking petty, and your message almost certainly gets lost in translation.

I think in general when you do something like you are saying happening it shows lack of understanding...not saying the agent should let it go but there are ways to handle things.
