Hello my Activerain wine peeps! Today's wine choice comes from my good friend Jeff DiMuria who sells homes on the lovely Brevard coast of Florida. Jeff recently told me about Apothic Red Wine. The name Apothic Red is inspired by the "Apotheca," a mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th century Europe. Kind of sounds like Apothecary doesn't it?
Apothic is a delicious blend of zinfandel (my fav), syrah, and merlot. The one thing that really surprised me about Apothic Red is that it comes from Gallo wines... yes...THAT Gallo wines. To be perfectly honest with you, normally I would dismiss a wine that Ernie and Julie make. But Gallo wines "Apothic Red" really put me in a position where I had to re-think my prejudice. This wine is REALLY GOOD!
This is a smooth jammy wine that drinks really wine and is absolutely yummy.
Wine Weekly said, "The nose is pleasant, inviting vanilla, butterscotch, red berries, and black cherry". They continue on:
"The mouth has sweet flavors of ripe raspberry, chocolate, maraschino cherry and boysenberry syrup. nIf finishes dry, with a balanced level of mild tannins and puckering acidity."
The price point on this jewel is around $10, which in my book is a definately BUY! Try Apothic Red and let me know what you think!
