Found Moose and a Lost Dog in Red Feather Lakes, CO

I have a new client who selected me to find her home…

Please email or call me if you know this dog!

It all started when my friend and associate, Terri called the office yesterday to say there were 2 Bull Moose over at Shagwa Lake.  I hopped in the car and drove right over because I don’t get these chances very often.

At first the moose were “hiding” in the willows and even though I caught more than a glimpse, I wasn’t satisfied.  So, I told Terri I was going to drive around the lake and try to get a better look.

When I came back around the lake they had moved out into the open!

Sure, I had noticed the little dog walking in the road, but I was far more interested in the moose.

I was snapping away and suddenly the dog leapt through my open driver side window and landed in the passenger seat, where she promptly began barking at the moose!  I’m not kidding, this was simply bizarre.

Apparently, she was lost - maybe she thought I would take her home….but I don’t know where she lives!  She has a pink sparkly collar, no tags and the sweetest face!

I know her owner must be worried sick.  Please email or call me if you know this dog.

I just went out to take a photo of a moose….and a lost dog “hired” me to find her way home.

Today I’m putting posters around the Village, I’ve already checked in with the stores and hopefully she will be back home and reunited with her owner soon.

8/16/2012- UPDATE- We Found her Owner and she is Safely Home!  YAY!!! Mission Accomplished.

Firstly, great picture of the moose (meese, mooses).  Secondly I hope you find the dog's owners.  Otherwise I have a horrible feeling you will have found that new home for your client - yours :)

Hi Sue, I guess she did know I would help...but despite all my efforts so far, we haven't been able to find her home.  Thanks about the moose photo- I was thrilled to see them out of the willows!

Hi Gay, thank you, I hope we can find her home soon...otherwise.... our dog thinks she's pretty neat!

Hi Will, WOW! 8 moose in 3 hours must have been fun.  You know they are all over our area, but I'm seldom in the right place at the right time, so it was really fun to see them yesterday. Thanks for stopping by today!

Thank you Sharon!  I was a little freaked out at first...I've never had a stray dog just jump into my car before and through the window, no less. But,  she's a sweet dog and it looks like she picked me to help her.

Hi Mary Elizabeth, I know- that collar alone says "someone thinks I'm pretty special"!  I'm surprised we haven't found her owner yet.  Thanks for your thoughts and for stopping in today!

Hi Jeff, " awwww ", I agree.  We're trying not to get too attached to her, but I think our dog would like to keep her! Thanks Jeff, if we don't find her owner, she might have already found another home!

Hi Tony, thank you, the moose are neat to see, you're right and thanks for the good luck wishes...looks like we might need some luck to find her home.

Kristin, I could not believe it when she jumped into the car- right in the middle of the photo shoot! LOL  I think someone HAS to be missing her- but so far, no luck in locating her owner...thanks for coming by, I appreciate it.

Thanks Jane, I think you're right, she seems to be fitting in pretty well here! I just keep reminding myself that her owner HAS to be looking for her...

So I guess you've called the shelters and vets to see if anyone has called.  Recently one of my neighbors dogs jumped the fence and is still missing.  He's heart broken.  You're such a sweet heart of taking him in and looking for his people.

Hi Tammy, yes, the Humane Society in Fort Collins has her info and photos, so does the vet---"Found" posters in the stores, and the Post Office ...I'm shocked that no one has called yet- I would be heart broken too!  I hope your neighbor finds his dog, thanks Tammy!

Mary,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for saving that beautiful girl.  This may be a moot point, but does she have a microchip?  I know all of my babies do.  Love the photo of the moose too!  Keep us posted on what happens with the dog, otherwise, maybe Jeff DiMuria can take her! lol

As I was posting my blog this morning, the phrase: Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat kept running through my head. And then I come over here and spot Bulwinkle. Coincidinky? I think not.

Mary - Never in my life have I been so fortunate as to see a scene like that one with the moose, let alone capture it to pixels.  That's a really special scene.  CONGRATULATIONS on having this photoblog FEATURED in the Photos group!

Hi Kerry, our vet in town didn't have a scanner, so my husband took her down to LaPorte this morning to get scanned- yes! she had a chip.  Within a few hours the owner called him and Roxie ( the dog) is now safely home!  Thanks Kerry- too bad for Jeff on this one! LOL

Thank you Gary, doggie is back home and I'm glad I could share my moose with you!

Elizabeth...there are no coincidinks! :-) LOL

Hi Myrl, thank you so much for the feature.  I was so excited to see these 2 and get a few shots in before the little highjacker jumped in the car!

Hi Dorie, as you've probably read, we were able to reunite the dog and her owner today. But, it was an exciting day at the lake. LOL

Hi William, thank you!  She was such a sweet dog and luckily we were able to locate the owner and she is back home again!

Mary Elizabeth, thanks for checking back in- we kind of miss little Miss Roxie, but are happy that she is back home where she belongs!

Mary, that is an amazing story!!!  I have never heard of that before, but if my cowardly, but lovable, dachshunds Holly and Maddie could jump that high they would have done the same thing!  Why?  They could bark menacingly at the moose from the safety of your passenger seat while looking and sounding tough!

Outstanding picture, and that is one LUCKY DOG to have come into your caring presence!

You are a great person to take the time to find the owner, and something great is going to happen from this!  I would love to see the pics that you didn't post.  Amazing animals!!!

Hi Bruce, that's a thought- maybe she was looking for a little protection before she told those moose a thing or two! HA!  As it turns out she lives in a town about 65 miles away and got lost while her owners were working up here- so she never would have gotten home with out somebody's help!   I will post some of the other moose photos that I got before the highjacking occurred! LOL! Always nice to see you, thanks Bruce!
