Texas Real Estate License | Renewal Requirements | Fingerprinting and Background Checks

Texas real estate license applicants and renewals now require fingerprinting and background checks.  This new procedure was recently mandated by the Texas Legislature.  This mandate allows the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to conduct a criminal background check with the FBI for every licensee.  Once the fingerprints are on file with the DPS, a licensee will not need to be fingerprinted for future renewals.

This mandate set in place will not only protect real estate brokers and salespersons, but it will also protect home buyers and sellers from individuals convicted of crimes inconsistent with the trust placed in a real estate professional.  Failure to be fingerprinted results in an agent's license being held inactive.

Fingerprinting is by appointment only with the DPS's exclusive vendor, Integrated Biometric Technologies (IBT).  You will first need to obtain a FAST Print Pass by logging on to www.trec.state.us/fastprintpass.  Make sure you have available your license number and license type or your nine-digit Agency identifier.  Your license number is available through License Info Search on the TREC website.  The nine-digit Agency identifier is located on your education evaluation letter and notification of eligibility to take an examination letter.

Once you have your FAST Print Pass, schedule your fingerprinting appointment online at http://www.ibtfingerprint.com/, or call 888-467-2080.

IBT charges $44.20 for the service payable in advance by credit card when scheduling the appointment through the website or by check at the time of fingerprinting.

For more information about the fingerprinting and background check program visit the TREC website at http://www.trec.state.tx.us/.

Thanks for the post Jeremy.  I have no problems with the the fingerprinting.  We are all professionals and we should be able to stand up against scrutiny without issues.  I would not want to use a professional that has something to hide.  If your readers are looking for more information about a real estate license or specifically a Texas Real Estate License they can click on either link.
