Speechless Sunday: Woodchuck Dilemma Continues

By

Speechless Sunday:  Woodchuck Dilemma Continues.  Some of you may know that I have struggled all summer trying to catch this One woodchuck in my yard.  He lives under my garage and has this massive entrance to his home.  Yes, he believes that the presence of his door should stand out in Rhode Island real estate also!  Well I am still not impressed with his abode.

rhode island real estate woodchuck

Nothing seems to entice him into the cage...again today he taunts me!  Short of doing something disastrous to him I am looking for some ideas to trap him & move him at least 3 miles away...Ideas?!  Speechless Sunday:  Woodchuck Dilemma Continues.

Good morning, Ginny.... I had an entire family under my shed..... I called a local exterminator and he caught each one in the cage with carrots and lettuce to entice them to enter it.... once they were all caught the next step was for them to dig a trench around the shed and lay wire in it so that others couldn't enter again.... then I filled the trench with stone.... it's been over a year without them now....cost:  $350.00...there was one huge creature and 5 babies.

Ginny: It sounds like Barbara is on to something.  By the looks of him he hasn't missed many meals so you might just capture him with a buffet of his favorite veggies.

Ginny, We had some critters digging in our flower garden and a trap like yours to catch them.  Besides the veggies for bait, we covered the trap with loose brush and leaves to make it seem more like a burrow hole.  We caught the offenders and got them to the other side of the river a few miles away.

Groundhogs are very smart.  Hard to trap and sure can dig holes fast.  You may have to lure him into the cage with turnips.

Hi Ginny,

No advice on how to lure the woodchuck into the cage, but I did laugh when you wanted to even catch the vermin.

Looks like he/ she knows what your trying to do and that's catch the poor guy. Why not put him on the payroll and have him chuck some wood for you. There are a lot of people who need wood for a fire place.

This way the woodchuck could earn his way to stay. LOL

Have a great Sunday in North Kingstown.

Best, Clint McKie

You have a smart critter in your yard.  Some would use a rifle to solve the problem.

Have a great day and an outstanding week.

Other than the little word game "how much wood does a woodchuck chuck...." I never realized there was such an animal.  Now I know.  Hopefully you can safely remove this guy from your garage.

Ginny, he does look rather large. Have you tried honking when inside the garage to frighten him away? How about charging him a NYC rent rate, that should scare him away for good! LOL
