8 Benefits to Buying Homes on Busy Streets #4 Noisy Families Welcome
By Michelle Carr-Crowe, San Jose Lynbrook High Home Expert Selling Homes in Cupertino Schools
Did you know there are at least 8 benefits to buying a Silicon Valley home on a busy street in San Jose, Calif., especially a West San Jose home with Cupertino Schools?
Before buyers outright reject a West San Jose Lynbrook High Home for sale on a busy street, I recommend they at least research homes for sale on busy streets in West San Jose with Cupertino schools as part of their pre-purchase homework.
At the very least visit the virtual tour or an open house to see the pros and cons of how that West San Jose home for sale in Cupertino Schools on a busy street possibly meets their needs, including financial affordability, in comparison to other options.
In this series on 8 Benefits of Buying a Home on a Busy Street, the First Reason to consider buying a home on a busy street in San Jose, Calif. is it’s significantly less expensive than one on an inside street. In my second post, I showed #2 is More Eyes, Less Crime. Another benefit is #3 Fewer Solicitors.
The Fourth Benefit to Buying a Home on a Busy Street is Noise is More Easily Tolerated – or as I like to say, “Noisy Families Welcome!”
On a quiet street, any noise can be disruptive to the other residents. For example, the sounds of people splashing, playing and laughing in a pool can really stand out. In contrast, happy squealing and laughing on a street with a hum of background traffic noise can just blend in.
As anyone who has lived in an apartment (and even some condos and townhomes that still share at least one wall or floor) can attest: what feels like normal noise to one neighbor can sound loud, annoying and unacceptable to another, leading to unpleasant confrontations, complaints, and noise violation issues in the community, creating a tense environment for everyone.
For example, at one West San Jose condominium complex, a downstairs neighbors' complaints about the noise from walking on laminate floors led to the upstairs owner being forced to replace them with carpet to keep the peace.
And in another Cupertino townhome community, a neighbors' complaints about children playing with a freestanding plastic basketball hoop in their own back yard led to a noise violation and citation, as this activity was actually forbidden in the By-Laws and Covenants, Conditions & Restrictions.
Understandably, the owner whose children enjoy playing in their own backyard is now working to change the rules; however many owners prefer the existing rules, so this noise issue continues to be debated at their Homeowners' Association meetings.
In one more West San Jose neighborhood, a neighbor complained every time another neighbor's child practiced their piano. It didn't matter if the time was nine, noon or night. Within 10 minutes, the neighbor would request the music to stop as it was disturbing her.
Many parents expect each child to learn to play a musical instrument-and that means practicing. Unfortunately practicing music can be painful even on the ears of the people who love those children (let alone their neighbors). The required hours of music practice needed to master playing a musical instrument can grate on the nerves of neighbors, as in the examples above, causing friction among people who would otherwise get along.
It can be easier for students to practice playing their musical instruments when they know they aren’t the only noise on the street. It takes some of the pressure off the student, increases peace in the neighborhood and reduces stress for the entire family.
