10 FOR TEXAS 2012 ~ THE WOODLANDS ~ RECAP!
The Annual 10 for Texas race in The Woodlands, Texas was another success. Despite the scorching heat and the extreme humidity, the 2500 runners showed up and did their best! I will have to say that it was a tough morning out there.
Market Street was abuzz with all of the runners and volunteers and spectators early Saturday morning. Spirits were high as we lined up on the starting line. It was a bit worrisome that at 7:30 a.m. we were already sweating just standing there. This was going to be a challenge!
By mile 4 I was already really feeling quite fatigued. The humidity just zaps you big time! I saw many runners down from heat exhaustion and many had to be transported to the hospital. Very scary!
I just slowed down and didn't try to be a hero. Took in a ton of water and kept popping my electrolyte pills. I finished but it wasn't pretty and I was soaked from head to toe!
My friend Aline from Brazil came and ran this race! It was her first US race and she was so excited. She will now take home her Texas medal that she is super proud of.
Chevaux Group was well represented with Jim Fredricks and I running. Susie our esteemed assistant was not able to run as she is recovering from knee surgery. She is one fast cookie too when she is full form.
You never know what the Texas weather will be like. Maybe next year we will have cooler temps. Oh well, spirits were up and we had fun seeing all of our running friends on Saturday!
See you next year at the 10 for Texas!
