Yes you are an expert at certain things, but your tax guy is better at doing your taxes, the maid is better at cleaning your house, an assistant or extern is better at typing, preparing excel spreadsheets, and researching than you, a web designer can make a more effective website than you, and your child knows more about twitter.com and foursquare.com than you do. Even if you can do something marginally better than someone else, it doesn’t mean you should. If meeting with clients or decision makers of businesses theoretically earns you $50 per hour, why spend all day doing what you can when you can pay someone else $10/hour to do it?
In my businesses I’ve learned that 90% of what I used to think I absolutely had to do, like marketing properties, doing paperwork, ordering for sale signs, social media, and designing brochures, can all be delegated. I’ve become great at all of this (except paperwork) and could do it myself, or I can teach someone else how to do it for me, and add more value by speaking with clients, negotiating great deals for them, or speaking at seminars.
