Racing down the road at 88 in a 55 Mile an Hour Zone! Oh my!

While showing homes to a client couple, we left one community to head to another. There was a long stretch of road before us that eventually turned uphill and suddenly the car was racing at 88 miles per hour in a 55 speed zone! As I shot into panic mode, I’m thinking how can I slow this car down safely without  alarming my clients and bringing too much attention to myself?!!! Ohhhhh, noooo! Here we go!

They were deep in conversation about the last 3 homes, comparing one to the other and not paying attention to the high rate of speed the car was approaching...I was f-r-e-a-k-i-n-g  o-u-t! Sure that my armpits were soaked with sweat as we continued down the road...screaming on the inside...THINK Wanda THINK! I started messing with the buttons on the dash...and realized that I had accidentally pushed the miles per hour button when I first got into the car, changing it to kilometers per hour!

I was only going 55 miles per hour, not 88, until I slowed to 34 miles an hour which is actually 55 kilometers an hour.  And just then my client asked, why are we going so slow, is there a problem?!!! “No, no problem.” As my heart was fiercely pounding against my chest...”I just need to pull over for a moment to check our paperwork on the next property...” I told them afterwards what happened and they got a good laugh out of it and told them they could call me WanDUH!

Moral of the story...Never, ever let ‘em see you sweat!

Wanda -- I was wondering how you could have gotten to 88 in a 55 zone -- and your explanation is fantastic.  For most of us, the analog speedometer gives us both readings.  You just ran into one of those problems with the digital readouts.  Glad things weren't as bad as you thought.

Will, At this point in my life, I am not sure I can relate to the metric system...no driving in Europe for me I guess!

So Wanda, what's the problem with going 88 mph? The speedometer goes up to 140 on my car. It's cruising speed in some parts of the country
