Pipestem Resort State Park, a West Virginia State Park you will want to visit!
In 1999, my husband I spent our honeymoon night at Pipestem Resort State Park before leaving the next day for Hawaii. This past August, we went back to Pipestem to celebrate my birthday with family and taking in sites and views at the Park. There are many attractions to see, golf courses, nature center, hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, game courts, shopping of course, and so much more!

One of the things I love to do while visiting Pipestem is to take a ride on the Pipestem Aerial Tramway. The tramway opened to the public in 1971. The tram sweeps from the Upper Station at the Canyon Rim Center to the floor of the rugged Bluestone Canyon where it crosses the Bluestone River before arriving at Mountain Creek Lodge. The tram is the only public access to this secluded lodge. The trip down is about six minutes to go 3,410 feet. Bikes and kayaks can be taken on the tram for activities at the bottom . This getaway spot is complete with each room featuring a balcony overlooking the river. It is truly a unique getaway.
The Bluestone River flows beneath the tram. Eight miles below the tram, the Bluestone River enters Bluestone Lake. Below Bluestone Lake the waters become the New River, famous for its whitewater and rafting.
Pipestem Resort State Park is located in the southeastern section of the state. From the Sandstone Exit off I-64, the park entrance is 22 miles south on state Route 20. From the west, take Athens Road Exit #14 off I-77 and travel east on County Route 7 to West Virginia State Route 20. Go north for 10 miles to the park entrance, on the left. In addition, the park is located near major airports at Beckley and Bluefield, WV, with rental car services nearby.
Pipestem Resort State Park is an affordable choice for special events, overnight lodging, meals, golf and activities, as a scenic stop, honeymoon, or celebrating your birthday.
