A Horse for the Holidays!

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Animal Rescue Pembroke Pines Fl Has your child ever asked you for a pony? Well now you can sponsor one and get all the benefits of owning a horse without nearly what it usually costs! You can also sponsor a pig, a miniature horse, a miniature donkey, a goat, or a cat if a horse is too much for you!

We have a rescue in Pembroke Pines called F.R.I.E.N.D.S. that saves horses and other farm animals. They have implemented family friendly community programs, including the Sponsor-A-Horse Program. They house 52 horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 9 pot bellied pigs, 1 farm pig, 3 goats, and a cat (and a partridge in a pear tree). Their costs have shot through the roof (feed is now $13K a month), so this program is becoming critical for funding. The organization runs solely on the generosity of the community, grants, trusts, foundations, and the money generated by the Sponsor-A-Horse Program. There are 22 horses that are not sponsored at the moment; 12 are ready to ride, 2 are on injured, and 8 can never be ridden again.

If anyone is serious about testing the waters of horse ownership, or just wants the experience without the price tag, this is a great place to start. The contract has no term or lease, and you have access to the facility and animals whenever you'd like. If you can't sponsor an animal, you make a contribution and have your name placed on the Memorial Wall (or make a contribution in someone's name) and/or donate items off their wish list (www.EiaHorses.org).

Sponsorship pricing:

Half a horse: $175 a month

Whole horse: $400 or less per month

Pig: $125 a month

Miniature horse: $125 per month

Miniature donkey: $ 100 per month

Goat: $25 per month

Cat: #15.00 per month

The month donation covers the feed, hay, stall, animal, care, and feeding. For sponsorship information, pleas visit: www.eiahorses.org

Patty,

What a brilliant idea, and I really hope your community responds to it.  Someone can have a horse without all the upkeep and space needed...great organization. Our cats run us more than $15 a month! A

Patty - Sounds like a great local charity and a great idea for giving gifts this holiday. We are doing something similar, but for a whole range of farm animals (chickens, goats, etc.). Have you heard of the World Vision Magazine? It's another good charity along the same lines..!

What a fabulous program, Patty.  A way to make sure that someone is ready for horse ownership and at the same time saving them.  I am surprised dogs are not on this list too.

Patty

That's a very interesting program . . . . and good idea to bring smile to a child's face.

Good luck and success.

This is such a great idea.  My mother in law lives in Pennsylvania and she does that.  She rents a horse by the month and loves it!

Hi Patty, As we all know there is a glut of animals and so if people rent horses or pigs that would be a win win for all. I hope this program is approved and many take advantage of it.
