An Iron Railroad Trestle in Cornwall New York

The corner of Jackson Avenue and Orrs Mill Road in Cornwall NY is a busy stop for taking photos. Although both roads are usually quite busy with normal through traffic, many people stop, park and get out of their cars to see these views. The Moodna Viaduct Train Trestle has been one of the most photographed locations in Cornwall for many years.

I think Fall is really the most beautiful time of the year with all the colors, but any season has its special reasons for taking unique photos. The weather and change of seasons drastically changes the spirit of the photos. This popular location to photograph the viaduct was found by the movie industry.

The location was used in the film with George Clooney - "Michael Clayton" making the viaduct more famous and putting Cornwall NY on the map in 2007.

The train began operating over the creek in 1909 by the Erie & Jersey Railroad. At a mere 3,200 feet long the trestle spans the valley of Moodna Creek. It reaches 193 feet at the highest point over the valley, and is the highest and longest railroad trestle east of the Mississippi River.

Due to the open design  it is believed that reduced wind resistance has allowed the longevity of the trestle to remain in service until today. Passenger trains cross this trestle daily as it is part of the Port Jervis Line that services Cornwall/Salisbury Mills and Port Jervis New York. Many people in the area cross the bridge daily for their commute to work.

Thanks William.. it was taken from a rather busy street corner. Everyone stops and parks their cars to get out and capture the perfect photo. I am sure that the neighbors are not too happy, but people are so compelled to stop there. They could sell tickets.. LOL
