No doubt about it, the mountains and valleys around Asheville can be nature’s classroom. One of my favorite places to learn about the natural world is the Arboretum. I'm a Family Member of the Arboretum, so have wonderful access to events and programs. Here are a few things I’ve done at the Arboretum that you might also enjoy.
You can take a guided walk this Friday (November 30th.) It’s the last one until April, so don’t miss out on connecting with the interpretive guides who’ll lead you along woodland trails and through a variety of forest types.
Or all year round- choose a self-guided walk on the three-quarter mile Natural Garden Trail that connects the two main visitor facilities. It ha interpretive signs along the trail explaining plant, animal, ecologic and environmental topics
One of my all-time great suggestions is to sign up for any number of adult education programs on natural history topics- native trees and plants, ferns, mosses and lichens which are led by regional naturalists.
The Art Walk at the Arboretum is wheelZ-accessible. Here’s a video I did along the pathway
Speaking of Accessible- There are wonderful homes within minutes of the Arboretum that offer mainfloor living and easy access. Here are a few examples
