Did you purchase a home in Fulton County this year, and is this home your primary residence? If, the answer is yes, you can file for a Home Exemption.
A Homestead Exemption lowers part of your home’s value for taxation purposes only and results in a low tax bill for you. The filing period opens on Jan 1 and continues through to April 1. This is the drop dead deadline. If you file on April 2, it is too late for the exemption for the current tax year, and you will have to wait until the following year to receive the exemption. There are additional Homestead Exemptions in Fulton County for: seniors, disabled veterans, surviving spouse of veterans, surviving spouse of peace officer or firefighter.
For further information and an application, go to the Fulton County Board of Assessors website: www.fultonassessor.org. You can also call the Fulton County Homestead Call Center at 404-612-6440.
Don’t forget!!!! Mark your calendar, to take advantage of the Homestead Exemption. The dollars you save could go towards a purchase for your new home.
