When I grew up in Germany, I could hardly wait to get my advents calendar ever end of November. Starting December 1st I would make a beeline every morning to it, to see what chocolate design I would discover.
When my kids were born my best friend in Germany made 24 little cloth bags for me that I could fill for my children every year.That was 18 years ago. I am ecstatic to say that these little christmas bags have made it through our move from Germany to the United States and then the 8 military moves within the United States.
The presentation of my advents calendar has also changed a bit. At the beginning I would just stick them tied to a string onto the window. On December 24th though I was left with a bunch of empty strings. Not very Christmas-sy. I started adding ornaments to the strings and I am much happier with the result after my kids have raided their advents calendar.
