One of the keys to successful marketing is setting yourself apart from others in your field. Many people receive the same email and snail mail from multiple real estate related professionals. Friends, real estate professionals and relatives tell me that they delete redundant emails and toss most printed materials in the circular file or shredder, without reading them. This is especially true for communication received on a regular basis, or perceived to be advertising or mass mail.
Understanding that most people lead busy lives and read only those things that catch their attention because they are relevant to them on a personal level, I developed a system to communicate in a way that feels more personal to those in my database.
Each database entry is assigned to one or more interest groups. I have created many categories including, neighborhood information, pet lover, children, performing arts, studio arts, film, shopping, restaurants, education related topics, travel, interior design, gardening and more. As I come across information of interest in any of the specified categories, I send a friendly email to all those who are interested in the topic. Recipients often respond to the emails, because they find the information to be of value. Because I have created many topics, everyone receives at least one email a month. This system allows me to stay in front of those in my database, without a sales pitch. This system has worked well for me. Eighty percent of my business comes from past clients and personal referrals.
