How to Provide Your Database with Unique Information

One of the keys to successful marketing is setting yourself apart from others in your field.  Many people receive the same email and snail mail from multiple real estate related professionals. Friends, real estate professionals and relatives tell me that they delete redundant emails and toss most printed materials in the circular file or shredder, without reading them. This is  especially true for communication received on a regular basis, or perceived to be advertising or mass mail.

Understanding that most people lead busy lives and read only those things that catch their attention because they are relevant to them on a personal level,  I developed a system to communicate in a way that feels more personal to those in my database.

Each database entry is assigned to one or more interest groups. I have created many categories including, neighborhood information, pet lover, children, performing arts, studio arts, film, shopping, restaurants, education related topics, travel, interior design, gardening and more.  As I come across information of interest in any of the specified categories, I send a friendly email to all those who are interested in the topic. Recipients often respond to the emails, because they find the information to be of value. Because I have created many topics, everyone receives at least one email a month.  This system allows me to stay in front of those in my database, without a sales pitch. This system has worked well for me. Eighty percent of my business comes from past clients and personal referrals.

Rain Camp echoed the idea of communicating on a regular basis with unique messages and data. Take the time to listen to the most recent Rain Camp , if you missed the original webinar. There are many valuable Rain Camp Takeaways.

Sharon, Great tips & Advice on databases. I like that you create may categories to separate the data. Thanks for sharing!

WOW! Sharon this is a great idea! I am going to have to emulate it! I normally use the free Old Republic Home Warranty Newsletter they provide agents and mail that out every so often. I don't want to do monthly because of the points in your blog.

I have been thinking about sending out some of my posts. Low and behold you posted about the very thing I was thinking about! The only difference is that I didn't think about the categories.

Thank you so much for the help! I just love that AR attracts people like you and others who help me build my business!

Sharon, this is just a brilliant idea! I think I read a similar plan awhile back but didn't have our database in order. I think I'm going to start divying them up as time permits. Thanks!

Very smart idea....and so nice of you to share it!  I've been thinking about ending my monthly newsletter because it's too much for me to think of topics every month.  This is a much better way to stay in touch!

Sharon, I need to do more email marketing, especially with postage going up again this month. I will be using your system and hope it works as well for me as it does for you. Thanks for sharing!
