I read a commentary today written by Five Star Institute Economist, Mark Lieberman, on January 18, 2013, titled "Let Them Eat .... Nothing" which has left me almost speechless. I find it hard to understand how a seemingly intelligent individual comes to the conclusions that Mr Lieberman makes through out this article. The article is about the on going debate in Washington on spending cuts and extending the debt ceiling. The article would have been better titled It Is Government Spending That Creates Jobs???
Mr. Lieberman's article and conclusions seem to be the same as many of the politicians in Washington who believe the answer to solving this countries problems is to spend, spend, and keep on spending. Many of the politicians in Washington, and Mr. Lieberman share a common belief that it is government spending that solves all problems. This theme rings throughout the article, but none more clearly than this one particular statement that he makes:
"For Obama to agree to this round of spending cuts or indeed any spending cuts now would undermine the slow but steady improvement in jobs and the economy. To be sure, government doesn’t have to be the employer of last resort, but virtually every dollar government spends means a job for someone. Maintaining debt stability allows that spending and job creation continue."
WOW, so the government is justified to continue their uncontrollable spending, because it is their uncontrollable spending that is creating jobs. This is truly amazing, It Is Government Spending That Creates Jobs??? The last time that I checked it seems to me that it is government's uncontrollable spending that is putting this country out of jobs.
