The hotels in Carmel-by-the-Sea are already in high gear for the influx of visitors that will be filling up not only this little village but the entire Monterey Peninsula. You are lucky to find a hotel room, in fact, if you plan to be here but don't have a reservation, start dialing!!! One website you should go to is www.carmelshotels.com it has virtually every inn in Carmel-by-the-Sea on it plus a few from nearby places such as Monterey and Pacific Grove. For hotels in Carmel Valley, go to www.carmelvalleycalifornia.com
What happens in Carmel-by-the-Sea when the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am happens?
Because you can't get close to the golf courses with your car (or at least I wouldn't advise it), there are shuttle buses from Carmel-by-the-Sea that the Carmel Chamber of Commerce is running. See www.carmelcalifornia.org for more information. Most people who come, just park their car and leave it there for the whole time. You can walk to anywhere in town when not on the golf course. Parking in town is brutal too if you come for the day.
About the shuttle serve, at first glance, you would think this is not good news for the Carmel-by-the-Sea retailers. But tournament attendees don't necessarily go to ALL play. Also lots of people show up and go down to the beach from which they can HEAR the tournament and see the buzz (if not the actual play). Then they go back to their hotel to watch the play. I remember doing that when Tiger Woods won the US OPEN back when. I could hear the roar of the crowd yet watch every hole being played from the comfort of my chair.
The many excellent restaurants and wine bars do very well after play is over at the end of the day. The town is absolutely teeming with people. So you better make your reservations now for restaurant seating.
ASK YOUR HOTEL TO MAKE RESTAURANT RESERVATIONS FOR YOU...AND DO IT NOW!
Oh, as to the retailers, if you stay open longer than you normally would, chances are you will get business after hours. That's my suggestion!!
