Saks Fifth Avenue announced today that their Galleria store on Dallas Parkway will be closing on June 15, 2013. Many Dallas shoppers will miss this original upscale Galleria anchor store. Saks is currently planning to keep its Houston and San Antonio stores open, along with its Off 5th stores. One of the Off 5th stores is located at The Shops at Park Lane in Dallas, on the corner of US-75 and Park Lane.

Belk, Inc. will lease the Saks 170,000 foot space at the Galleria. Belk currently has thirteen stores in the State of Texas. The closest store to Dallas is the Flower Mound Store. Founded in 1888, Belk markets their inventory as "Modern Southern Style." They have a private clothing brand as well as top designer labels, and popular national brands. The Galleria and Belk will redesign the current Saks space. At this time, no grand opening target date has been announced. Stay tuned.

Hi, Sharon -- that is a shame.  Saks has some wonderful stores, especially their flagship property.  Hope your year is off to a great start.  best, Eric

Sharon - I've never heard of Belk before, is it a department store similar to Saks?

At least Belks is coming in.  Belks is a big deal back east.  Debbie was shocked when she found out we didn't have one in our area.

Eric, Saks will be missed, for sure.

Michelle, I had not heard or Belk's before either.  I think Belk's is more like a Macy's.  It sounds like they have a wider range of prices than Saks. Over the last few years, most people's shopping habits have evolved.  I know I am a lot more cost conscious.

John, thanks for letting me know that Belk's is well liked on the East coast. I was surprised to hear that here were 13 stores in Texas.

Sharon,  I use to live in Frisco before moving to the Hill Country area and I loved shopping a Saks at the Galleria.  However, I must say, I have shopped at a Belk and the prices are more reasonable and have a wonderful selection of clothing, kitchen and bedding in their stores.
