Friday Is “National Wear Red Day”
The American Heart Association is asking Americans to wear apple-red, crimson, or scarlet on Friday in support of the association’s annual “Go Red for Women Campaign". Buildings and landmarks across the country will be decorated in red, including the famous Macy’s Herald Square. Many women are unaware of the threat of the disease, according to the association, only one in five women know the disease is the leading killer of women. The focus of the campaign is to raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women in this country.
The statistics from the American Heart Association are alarming regarding women and heart disease.
· One women dies from heart disease each minute
· Female deaths from heart disease have exceeded the death toll for men since 1984
· One in every three women will lose their life to hear disease
· Nine out of 10 women have one or more risk factors for heart disease.
