Space Coast Business Spotlight: Downtown Melbourne Farmer's Market

I absolutely hate going to a grocery store...first off...I cannot cook so the thought of buying food that I need to prepare myself is not a great one. Since I do not eat meat I find the need for tasty veggies even more important then I did when a hamburger with cheese and onions was on my menu.

For me a farmer's market is a nice way for me to stay away from the grocery store, support some of our great local farmers and business people while also enjoying better tasting veggies and fruits (as well as some other nice products).

Historic Downtown Melbourne has a farmer's market every Saturday and Sunday from 10-3pm...and since we have amazing year round weather...we also get a year round farmer's market!

I have purchased veggies, fruits, raw Space Coast honey and many other locally made items at the Downtown Melbourne Farmer's Market. It is on the corner of US-1 and Strawbridge (Rt. 192) in Historic Downtown Melbourne so if you live on the Space Coast or you are just visiting...come on down and support some of our local farmers, artists and business people!

HA!  I spend half my waking hours shopping for good vegetables and fruits.  Sadly, the prices in this area have increased about 40% just in the past year.

I just shop the sales in grocery stores.  I do find that the prices at farmer's markets in this area are not very good.  I don't care.

One thing for sure, I give a lot of credit for my good health to the time when I stopped consuming meat, about 35 years ago.

Good for you.  I suspect that your arteries are probably in pretty good shape.

Hi Jeffrey -- with so much processed food in most grocery stores, neighborhood Farmer's Markets are a great resource to shop local, shop fresh and support the community.  It's great the Downtown Mebourne Farmer's Market is open both Saturday and Sunday -- very nice.

Hi Jeffrey -

I totally agree. So many processed foods to pick through, good idea posting about Farmer's Markets. Food for thought!

Enjoy!!

I am so jealous that your farmers markets are open. I cannot wait until spring till ours open again. But we also grow a lot of our own vegetables and preserve them, and have chickens for eggs

Jeff - I'd rather grocery shop, than clothes shop.  But, I like to cook too!  I think local Farmer's Markets are the best and most fun however.

I wish we had more of them around. The fruits and veggies really do taste better and seem to last a bit longer.

You are probably enjoying the farmers markets again.  Ours won't start until late May, and even then, we won't have much because of our cold weather.
