Is it wrong to use more than one Realtor?

Depending on how deep you are in your home search this can be a gray area for some buyers, especially if they are searching on-line and are getting emails and phone calls from several agents at once. Have you ever worked with a buyer and found out they already signed up with another agency? Or as the buyer, did no one explain to you how agents work and what they expect? Do you like one web-site to search homes and the other to use their maps on their web-site? Whatever the case it’s important for a buyer to know just how to choose the agent that will be working for them and their interests, and that is so much more important than just waiting for the next  Johnny on the Spot to hand them a great deal  at the right time. At some point the buyer must decide what agent they are working with and stick with them. But what if you are talking with 2 or 3 agents over the phone or in emails? If you’ve just started, most likely you are getting lots of agents after your business. Now is the time to choose-and be upfront with the agents, tell them you would like to interview them before spending any more of their time. Make your decision quickly and stick with it. Most agents will want you to sign a buyer’s agency with them so they can be assured of your loyalty. If you are uneasy about making the commitment to one agent, ask them if they can add verbiage where you can get out of the agreement, most agents will accommodate the buyer! Remember we usually never charge fees to talk to us, and we only make our living after closing on the sale. Is it wrong to use more than one agent? If you are to the point of getting in the car and looking the answer is yes! But early on-it’s expected that you’ll come in contact with more than one agent, and that’s normal, but don’t be afraid to choose. Most likely if the agent knows she/he has you as a client, the harder they will work for you!

Carrie, The buyers need to be upfront as you say with the agents. It is okay to shop around a little but when it's time to get serious they need to buckle down and commit to one agent. Suggested.

Hi Debbie, Yes exactly. The agents don't know all the details in the beginning, so both should ask questions and communicate!

it is WRONG!

I always ask if they have an agent, but sometimes, clients need quick information or showing and can not reach their agents, so they call you( with no intention to use your service in future, just 'this time'), it is very disrespectful.

I agree with you and  Debbie( who re blogged your post, btw) choose the agent and commit to the process.

After they get in the car, it's wrong wrong wrong all day long.  But the agent should obviously clarify the status in any early conversation....

Thanks for your comments! Yeah, it is always wrong, unfortunatly it does not matter to some looking for quick info, my broker today gave the example of dating and meeting someone for the first time...you have to ease into the relationship:)

Love Being Realtor® in the Nashville TN Area!

Someone emailed me this week with a question on a down payment assistance program, and informed me immediately that she was going to work with a friend of 10 years if she bought. I appreciated that.

I find that if you are the listing agent, you really have to question whether them about whether they have a Realtor because you will run your legs off showing the property if you don't.  They say that they don't want to bother their buyer's agent.
