What Home Improvements Should I Do Before Selling My Home?

One of the main questions I receive before selling a home in Santa Cruz is: Do I need to do any improvements before putting my home on the market?  Most homes in Santa Cruz can use some updating and fixing up before going on the market but it is not always necessary or cost effective.  Many times you will not get dollar for dollar what you put into improvements in your home.  If you spent $50,000 dollars on landscaping your home and then a buyer wants to come in a put in a pool they will not value the improvements the same as you do.

One of the easiest and most effective things to do to improve your home for sale is to paint, inside and outside of your home.  We like to say a gallon of paint is worth $30 in the can and $1000 on the wall.  There is nothing like a fresh coat of paint to make a home look clean and bright, especially if you had dark or dated colors on the walls before.

Below is information about different home improvement projects and what you might be able to expect to recoup in costs:

We have all seen sellers make improvments that are not necessary or over-improve their home with no chance of getting what they spent back.  My goal is to help sellers get the most money for their home without breaking their banks and backs :)

I agree - great job.  Knowlege is powerful when making decisions.  Sellers love this type of information.
