Spotlight - University West

University West is an established mixed use neighborhood located in West Fairbanks. Bordered by the Mitchell Expressway/Parks Highway to the north, Chena Pump Road to the west, Chena Small Tracts to the south and the Chena River to the east, University West is an easy commute to the heart of Fairbanks. Originally platted in the early 1970's University West has become one of Fairbanks most popular subdivisions. Despite being relatively densely populated, the developers did have the vision to set aside numerous greenbelts throughout the area to help give the area a more natural feel.

University West is a short 5 minute commute to the University of Alaska and downtown Fairbanks, 10 minutes to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and 15 minutes from the front gate of Fort Wainwright.

Not that I plan to move to Fairbanks, but the pictures remind me of when I was there in the early '70's and again while on vacation in the early '90's. AK is really a great state. God's country if you will.  8-}

Nice presentation with the google map and home pictures.  It's a long way from Florida to Alaska, but I hope to make the trip someday.

Hi, Michael - In some ways Fairbanks hasn't changed much since the 70's with respect to residential housing.  We still have an overwhelming majority of homes that were built in the pipeline era.  In other ways it's changed quite a bit in 30 years.  The cold can be a pill, but the vast beauty of Alaska is hard to beat.  Wyoming/Montana/Idaho all have that same feel to me... and are almost as beautiful. :)

Hi, Dan - Thanks... most of our homes are not set in established neighborhoods, so this little endeavor could be a challenge... but I thought it would make a good localism post.  Definitely come up and see us sometime.  You would have a great time.
