The first quarter of the year is the least productive quarter for new housing starts. A housing start is recorded when the footings and foundation go in. This is, after all, New Brunswick, Canada. A contractor must be truly motivated to take on the discomfort as well as the added expense of working outside in below freezing weather between snowstorms in January, February and March. I've prepared the graph below to illustrate housing starts recorded in the last few years. Total housing starts in the first quarter of 2013 were about average, although single detached starts were off.
