All Alone

By
Real Estate Agent WV0026375

This sweet duck was all alone in the parking lot of Fair Oaks Mall in Virginia.   I got really close to it before s/he slowly got up and wobbled away from us.  When we looked back s/he was just standing there.  It seemed to be hurt and didn't know what to do.  We wondered if it was hit by a car.  On our way back to the car, we were looking for the duck and saw it in the grass mostly standing on one leg.  I was glad to see the duck in the grass and not in the parking lot for it surely would have been killed.

Rebecca,

If one of God's creatures can have the courage to get up and move, even when it is hurt, then there's no excuse for any human being.

I can't help but wonder if it got a fishing hook inside its webbed foot. Poor duck. It can't run off to the ER. It can't ask for help. It has to endure, despite the odds. Humans have it pretty good when you think about it and yet many think they are entitled to so much more.

There's a lesson in this duck.

So sad to see a hurt animal.  We had a wounded deer in the yard one year and it broke my heart.  I hate to see any living creature suffer.

Patricia, so true and never thought of this...indeed a lesson to learn from this duck! Larry and Sheila, I think he was okay and was so glad to see him off of the parking lot. When we saw the duck in the parking lot it was not crowded, but when we came out well we were concerned and glad to see him in the grass. Anita, me too! Sharon, it indeed is hard to see an animal hurt.

Hi Rebecca,

I am so sorry you found an injured duck but hopefully it will get back to its nest and pond. The water should ease the pain and time will probably heal his injuries. It is sad when animals are hurt. Ducks are one of my favorite animals as they have such a cute personality.

Rebecca, Fair Oaks has such a busy parking lot. I'm so glad he/she was able to get over into the grass. Hurt animals break my heart, they're so helpless.

Rebecca, it's never easy watching an injured animal...reminds me of a quote that I'll probably get wrong..."I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself"!

Hi Rebecca,

I was sorry to read about the duck that wasn't feeling good... even in the picture you took it looked very sad.  When reading your story it re-mined me of the story of the Geese...  when one falls from the flying formation two other geese fly down to be with it until the one geese is better.... then they all fly back into the formation together.  I felt sad that the duck was alone...  where were his buddies when he needed them....

Toni, knowing you and your love of animals you probably would have taken the duck to the vet.

Patricia, a knee replacement..is this soon! My sister-in-law had both of her knees replaced but at different times of the year of course.

Tony & Darcy, I agree they are a delight to watch.

Kristin, I was watching the ducks at the pond earlier today while walking my dog, Zeke.  They are such a delight.

Amanda, Fair Oaks is huge. But everytime we stay at the Marriott across from the mall, the ducks are out in the road.

Debbie, yes a sitting duck :)

Nick, never heard that quote before, thanks!

Dale, It seemed to be okay when I saw it in the grass.

Linda, I had read that before about geese flying in formation and helping each other.  Not sure where the ducks friends were that day.
