Writer's Block: What To Write About?
Brian Rayl has written a great post on writer's block!! What to Write About. I know I have been there at times especially following a busy day, still lots to do and I am tired. Thanks Brian for these great suggestions. Please share thoughts with Brian.
Inspiration for a blog can come in many different forms. Sometimes it is a client that asks you a question, sometimes it is something that you read or see on Facebook, ActiveRain, or anywhere else in the media. Today's inspiration actually comes from a lack of inspiration. The question is, when you have writer's block, what do you write about?
There are several topics which you can cover.
1) Blog about a listing: This is probably my #1 thing when I either don't know what to write about, don't have much time, or want to highlight a certain neighborhood for SEO purposes.
2) Blog about a neighborhood: Go for the long tail keywords. For instance, I could talk about the Disney Streets in Dallas or Lakewood Hills Dallas, or Junius Heights homes for sale. You can do market reports, local events, or local businesses.
3) Talk about schools or school districts: If there is a popular school in your area, talk about it, talk about what is going on at the school, or homes for sale in that district. For instance, I could discuss homes for sale in Highland Park ISD or perhaps Lakewood Elementary in Dallas which is always popular.
4) Blog about condo complexes by name: When people start to narrow in on an area, they start to research the specific complexes that they are looking at. Go to the complexes and talk to residents or managers and get some information about the place. For instance, I could discuss luxury condos in Victory Park Dallas or condos at the Ritz Carlton Dallas. These are often termed as "money words" or "buyer words" because these people are closer to transacting.
5) Blog About Frequently Asked Questions: Any question that you have ever been asked before, answer it in a blog. Title it in the form of the question that your client would ask: Should I rent or sell my home in Dallas? What documents do I need when applying for a mortgage in Dallas? What is a home warranty? When all else fails, just google "Real Estate FAQs" and find some examples.
When you get writers block, what do you typically write about? I'm always looking for new and fresh ideas!
